The Lahti International Ski City exhibition portrayed Lahti as a ski city seen through the eyes of the spectators and athletes of the Lahti Ski Games. Throughout the years, spectators and athletes have been invited and received with great friendliness and hospitality – colourfully and without losing sight of humour. Can you recognise Lahti behind the neon lights?

At the time the exhibition opened, Lahti had already hosted the Nordic World Ski Championships six times. The next time was in 2017, Finland’s 100th year of independence. The exhibition in the Ski Museum illustrated the history of Lahti as an international ski city through pictorial material from the World Ski Championships.

The Lahti International Ski City exhibition was strongly based on visual expression, easily accessible to Finnish and international visitors alike. The exhibition highlighted spectators’ experiences and stories – what Lahti looked like seen through the eyes of international guests. It covered the city’s long history of ski games, including the first six times of hosting the Nordic World Ski Championships and the preparations for the 2017 games. In addition, the exhibition showed how Lahti had marketed itself internationally as a host of skiing events.
