The Sweat, Sisu and Ski Heroes exhibition portrays the golden era of Finnish ski racing from the 1950s to the ‘70s. The exhibition describes how the athletes trained, how they prepared for their big races and how they interacted with the media and their fans and spectators. All the famous Finnish skiing heroines and heroes are represented – from Siiri Rantanen and Veikko Hakulinen to Helena Takalo and Eero Mäntyranta.

The exhibition can be found in the new exhibition space on the ground floor of the Ski Museum. In addition to the Grit and Determination exhibition, the snow-castle-like exhibition space also houses the Nordic Ski Hall of Fame.

Nordic Ski Hall of Fame

In 2017, the Nordic Ski Hall of Fame was established in the Ski Museum, portraying the most successful Finnish athletes in Nordic ski sports. The Hall of Fame honours and highlights Finnish ski athletes who have been very successful internationally as well as persons who have contributed significantly to the development of ski sports.

A specific jury decides who is elected to the Nordic Ski Hall of Fame. The jury consists of representatives from the following organisations: The Ski Museum/Lahti City Museum, the Sports Museum of Finland, the City of Lahti and the Finnish Ski Association. The jury emphasises pioneer work and success in the Olympics. The objective is to elect successful Nordic ski athletes and influential persons to the Hall of Fame generally once a year.
